ST. AUGUSTINE FL trip
May 13-18 2024
PART 2

RAIN RUINED THE WHOLE TRIP!!! We exit I-75 onto US 82 in Tifton, Ga.

US 82 whisks us under I-75.

I guess it's a brand new day after all, and we finally enter Florida on I-75!

On I-75 near Jasper, the broken sign might be damage from an earlier storm.

This sign also met the storm's wrath.

More storm damage.

This tree was also felled by the storm.

Ramp to I-10!

On I-10, you can see downtown Jacksonville coming into view.

Jacksonville is the hometown of Rex Smith. I'm surprised Jacksonville tourism officials haven't run ads with Rex Smith saying, "Jacksonville. It'll take your breath away!" Wikipedia said, "Smith is best known for his role as motorcycle police officer Jesse Mach in the short-running 1985 television series Street Hawk." Huh???

Jacksonville's tallest building is Bank of America Tower, the pointy building at center left.

I-10 nears its end at I-95. It runs all the way from Santa Monica, Calif.

The very last throes of I-10.

Now we're on I-95!

A view of downtown Jacksonville, with highways sweeping in front.

Downtown is fronted here by the FEC Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge and the St. Elmo W. Acosta Bridge. Hahahaha, Elmo! Both bridges cross the St. Johns River. The former is a rail drawbridge that opened in 1925. The latter has FL 13 and some monorail and opened in 1994.

Another slice of central Jacksonville.

I-95 goes under this hospital walkway.

Even Jacksonville has some elaborate freewayage.

I-95 on the south side of Jacksonville.

This loopy ramp is one of the first signs on this trip that St. Augustine even exists.

FL 16 crosses the San Sebastian River to St. Augustine!

Center Street in St. Augustine.

Biz US 1 uses San Marco Avenue. This is just before my lunch got ruined by one of WellCare's telemarketing calls.
